Christmas Damage Limitation – 5 Fab Fat Burning Tips
The Christmas party season is in full gear now and you know that little black number might be a bit of a squeeze, that suit might not be so flattering any more. Fear not…you can still make a difference. If you put some effort in and follow these 5 tips you will definitely feel fab by the time January hits!
1 – Get Alkaline
Alkalizing the body sheds fat fast! The body is naturally acidic. However, the foods we eat add to this acidity and the fat in our body stores the additional acid, which results in overweight problems and an unhealthy body. To protect against acid buildup, the body begins to create and store fat.
Even if you are on a weight loss diet and you exercise, your body will try to hold on to this fat because it is important for protection against acids. That is why many people whom restore alkalinity in their body find it significantly easier to lose weight.
There are certain foods that are alkaline and help to flush the acid and fat from the body. Most green vegetables are highly alkaline so stock up, these will make a difference. Some really high acid foods are: Fast food (all processed food), Fizzy drinks, booze, coffee, milk, eggs, cream, cheese, red meat. That’s not to say some of these are healthy (ie the good fat and proteins) but they need balancing out with alkaline foods.
So make sure you get plenty of greens when eating proteins like meat & eggs and avoid too many starches in the form of grains or root vegetables. Another way to get more alkaline is to take a green drink powder in your water.
You all may have noticed me with my shaker of green swamp water or pink water. This is a product that has a blend of ground organic super fruits and greens like Goji berry, Acai Berry, Kale, Chlorella, broccoli and spinach to name a few. I have been using this product for some time now to make sure I help my body to stay alkaline as I do eat a diet in foods high in protein and exercise most days which cause oxidative stress to the body. WELLNESS GREENS is the product I use and stock (it’s the best tasting greens that I have tried however you can find good blends in most health food shops. All it takes is 1 to 2 10 gram scoops per day in 800mls of water. If you want to order a tub before Christmas just pop me a mail or give me a call!
2 – Exercise Every Day
That’s right, if you want a quick result you are going to have to step it up. Forget this 20 minutes three times a week stuff. While this may start improving your health (and is better than nothing) it isn’t going to give you the quick body shape result you are looking for.
Aim for 3-4 weights workouts per week and 2-3 interval sessions per week. That way you will be living in a calorie burning, metabolism increasing, fat busting state… 24/7! Work hard (and smart) here and you will reap the benefits both in the short term and long term.
3 – Eliminate Sugar
This will have dramatic improvements alone and is something everyone would benefit from. Eliminating sugar from your diet is essential if you want drop body fat quickly.
This means all the obvious culprits such as sweets, biscuits, cakes, alcohol, desserts and fizzy drinks but there are other not-so-obvious sources that need to go too. These include white and in fact most breads, white wheat based pasta, white potatoes, most root veg and some high sugar fruits like bananas, grapes and mangos (for now anyway), all breakfast cereals and anything that is processed. This is because these foods either contain a high amount of hidden sugar or the effect they have on the body is very much like sugar.
Doing this will not only improve your body shape ready for the all-important party night, it will significantly improve your health and energy levels. You can intelligently and systematically introduce something back in after a period of time but keeping sugar at a low intake 90% of the time is good practise all year round.
4 – Eat Whole Foods and Protein for Breakfast
(I prepared all this food in less than 3 hours on a Sunday!)
Your body craves nutrients and if you are trying to get these nutrients from the unhealthy foods listed above you are going to come up short. The processed foods are not nutrient dense so when the body doesn’t get them it will crave more food until it does, thus making it easier to overeat, cause cravings and ruin the fat loss goal.
Aim to stick to single ingredient foods that are nutrient dense, unprocessed, natural and actual real foods that Mother Nature intended. Quality is key here. Go for the highest quality you can find.
I often get looked at like I have 2 heads when I suggest to have a protein based breakfast. So eggs, chicken, fish, lean meat, turkey, so basically anything you might have for lunch or dinner would be what you are aiming for. I can’t stress more the importance of making this change. Have your daily coffee I don’t mind but once you start having protein in the morning you won’t look back. Study after study shows eating protein in the morning with no starchy carbohydrate helps set your neurotransmitters up for the day so you avoid blood sugar ups and downs. 5. Drink More Water
Increasing your water intake to a minimum 3 litres per day will have a huge impact on your body’s ability to shed those unwanted pounds. For maximum effect aim for 1 ltr per 50lbs bodyweight.
If the body is in a dehydrated state (99% of people are, without even realising it) it will not want to let the excess fat cells go without a fight. For every single cell in your body to function optimally it needs to be fully hydrated. This optimal cell function is essential if you want to get rid of those love handles before the party season. If you are bored of the taste of water add lime or lemon to it, this also helps alkalize the body along with a good quality greens powder.
If you follow the above advice you will see and feel difference within weeks. You will feel more confident, energised and happy at your Christmas party meaning you will enjoy it that much more. My advice would be to carry on with some kind of plan post party, otherwise you may waste all the work you put in now.
Over the next couple of weeks I’ll be writing a party season survival article which will limit the damage to your goals and body shape.
